In 2022, luxury hotel developers Jonathan Goldstein, Cain International, and OKO Groups, Vlad Doronin, owner of the Aman, paid $147 million for the South End’s dated Ambassador Hotel. Rumors have been swirling about the possibility of an Aman Palm Beach resort and residences, but insiders say it’s more likely to be Aman’s sister brand, Janu, since an Aman Miami is already in the works.
While in recent years nearby South Florida towns, including adjacent West Palm Beach, have been built up with modern luxury buildings, the South End section of Palm Beach has remained almost unchanged. Unlike the center and North-end of the 18-mile-long, mile-wide island, has been able to preserve its comparatively affordable mid-century housing for decades thanks to a combination of community pressure and 50-year-old building codes. Some locals are protesting, as the developers are finally able to construct a set of new luxury condo buildings.
Although there has been initial concern from some longtime neighbors about how the growth might impact the area, the project is currently planned to be in keeping with the wishes of the Palm Beach Town Council. The team plans to build an ultra-luxury, low-density residential development, which will enhance the surrounding neighborhood while reducing impact on the community. The project is rumored to include a boutique 3-building development with only 49 residences, at least 10 swimming pools, multiple fountains and expansive rooftop decks. Bringing game-changing growth to the South end of Palm Beach Island for the first time in decades.
